The following information is being shared as a clarification of the email you received yesterday regarding Legacy Scholarships:

Any student who is the child or grandchild of an EIU graduate and will be enrolling at EIU for the first time in the fall of 2012 is eligible to apply for the $1,000 Legacy Scholarships, which are funded through the proceeds of the collegiate license plate program offered by the Illinois Secretary of State. In conjunction with this, the EIU Alumni Association offers two $2,500 awards annually to recipients whose parents or grandparents are members of the EIU Alumni Association. Membership in the Alumni Association is not a factor in the awarding of the $1,000 scholarships.

Eligibility:

The recipient shall be a child or grandchild of an Eastern Illinois University graduate.

The recipient shall begin his/her first semester at Eastern Illinois University in the fall of the calendar year in which the award is given.

The recipient shall have a minimum of a 4.0 GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The recipient shall demonstrate enthusiastic and outstanding leadership as evidenced by his/her involvement in extracurricular activities.

To Apply:

Applicants should send a letter, detailing how they meet the qualifications of this scholarship, including how she or he is related to an Eastern alumna/us and if that person is a member of the EIU Alumni Association. Two letters of recommendation along with high school and/or college transcripts need to be included as well.
